A brilliant mass of crystalline gold on top of white quartz. This gold in quartz specimen is from the Harvard Mine in Jamestown, California. An interesting story behind this piece - the mine was naturally filling with water and was closed to any large equipment. A prospector was allowed to mine the walls of mine in a canoe with a gold detector and this is one of the pieces that was discovered. The mine is now fully submerged and there will be no more gold specimens from the Harvard Mine. This gold in Quartz measures 1" by 1" (27mm by 25mm) and weighs 10.27 Grams (158 grains).
